Trump’s Positioning

Trump’s Positioning

While Trump was down, was it possible that he realized there was a more powerful position than the office of the president?

People continued wondering why…. why would Trump sabotage his campaign by continuing to go off script and talk about the personal attacks, or twenty other things that weren’t key to his campaign success? Instead of focusing on the issues, he continued on topics that were not helping bring people to his campaign. He continued to fight back.

There may have been two reasons for this behavior. First, he knew what happened to Romney last election when he totally changed his energy, strategy and how he acted from the primaries to the general. Romney completely caved in and went to the middle, backing down from most of Obama’s challenges and meeting him in the middle so much it didn’t seem like there was much light in-between them.

Trump instead decided to stick to who he was and what he had been doing before during the primary. If that’s what his supporters liked, he wasn’t going to change anything. In fact, he’d try harder to be the same old Trump to confirm his position that he hadn’t changed to pander to another group while forgetting his base.

The second reason why I think Trump cut loose was because he was ~10 points down in some state polls, and even in some general election polling. At some point he may have realized, with all the Trump TV rumors, etc… that being the president is still a pretty limiting position. It may be possible with this new massive movement to create the support and to get what he wants done outside of the office. Why not go for the presidency the way you want, and build even more support during the way?

Trump’s “shackles have been taken off…” That means to me that either way really, he had a winning strategy. You don’t become a billionaire without finding positives with whatever you do to get to that good end result. Either way, there is a plan to win, privately in business or publicly with the presidency.

Of course Bernie figured this out too when he was running in the primary, and even exhibits it in his behavior now. If Hillary wins, he certainly can’t run against her in four years… nor can he really build his movement. That’s what it’s all about, building that movement.

It’s hard to raise money and get volunteers and support when someone similar to you is in office. The only way for Bernie to raise money and build the strong movement he started is to have someone who is drastically different.

If Bush’s final gift to America was Obama… is it only fair that Obama’s final gift to America is Trump?

Regardless, it will be interesting to see how our strained democracy works.
